A personal statement of philosophy from Juan Soto, delivered to the pitcher, the catcher, the umpire, and anyone else present at the time.

Juan Soto steps into the batter's box. He has already assessed the pitcher. He has already assessed the situation. He has a plan, and the plan involves understanding the strike zone at a level of precision that most hitters do not achieve in their entire careers, and he has been operating at this level since he was nineteen years old, which was not very long ago, and which suggests that his relationship with the strike zone is not something he learned so much as something he arrived with, fully formed, as a condition of his existence on earth. The pitcher throws. Juan Soto watches the pitch. The pitch is not in the strike zone, which Juan Soto knew before it was thrown. The count changes. This happens again. And again. Eventually the pitcher has thrown four pitches that are not in the strike zone, and Juan Soto walks to first base in the manner of a man who has completed a task that was always going to end this way, who is not surprised, who has never been surprised, and who will be back in the box in two innings to do it again, should the pitcher decide to repeat the experiment, which he will, because they all do, and it never goes differently.

The Soto I Takes Walks tee is for Yankees fans who have watched Juan Soto work a count to 3-2 on six pitches and felt a specific kind of joy that is difficult to explain to people who do not watch baseball. District DM130 Perfect Tri® Tee — featherlight, broken-in soft, and available in Grey Frost, Navy Frost, and White. Wear it when he walks. Wear it when he doesn’t walk, because he still had a plan, and the plan was good, and sometimes the pitch was close enough that he swung, and the outcome of that is also generally excellent.

  • 4.5 oz. — light enough for a fan who is comfortable waiting through a ten-pitch at-bat because they understand that patience is the whole point and good things are coming
  • 50% polyester / 25% combed ring-spun cotton / 25% rayon — tri-blend construction that holds together through a full season of Juan Soto receiving ball four and trotting to first base with the energy of a man who is not the least bit surprised
  • Rib-knit neck that holds its shape through the broadcaster explaining, for the third time tonight, that Juan Soto’s walk rate is historically elite, which is correct, and which bears repeating
  • Tear-away label — no irritation at the collar, just like there is no irritation in watching someone with one of the best eyes in baseball history use it repeatedly and to great effect
  • Shoulder-to-shoulder taping for a structured fit appropriate for someone who has accepted that some at-bats end with a strikeout, some end with a hit, and a meaningful number end with Juan Soto walking to first base because that was always where this was going
  • Available in Grey Frost, Navy Frost, and White — Yankees colors for a Yankees fan watching a Yankees player do something that Yankees fans get to watch now, which is still a fact that takes a moment to fully absorb
